Information for Spain - Health
In a non-emergency situation a visit to a Spanish Pharmacy (farmacia) should be the first port of call as they can advise and prescribe in most cases without the need to see a doctor. Look for a green illuminated cross (sometime a red illuminated cross) and/or the word farmacia. Late opening pharmacies can usually be found by looking for a rosta list in the window of any pharmacy in the area.

Nationwide the only emergency number is for the Policia Nacional but they will help you to get assistance if you call them. Local emergency numbers can however be found on many of the tourist maps and leaflets and in telephone directories under 'Servicios de Urgencias' or 'Ambulancias' or 'Cruz Roja' (Red Cross). If practical you can of course go straight to a Hospital Casualty Department (Urgencias).
